Derrygreenagh (2022) is the second photobook iteration of my long-term documentary photography project focusing on the ongoing changes surrounding the Derrygreenagh group of bogs in Offaly and Westmeath as Bord na Móna permanently end peat harvesting and transform into a climate solutions company under their “Brown to Green Strategy”. A historic change for the once industrial Midlands region, the project examines the ongoing changes through photographs of Bord na Móna infrastructure remnants, maps, documentation, interviews, personal anecdotes and also examines the future of Bord na Móna and the Midlands region as wind farms start to appear on former boglands. I also provide a detailed history of key Derrygreenagh bog locations interspersed with elements of my local family history.
The book is a hardback printed on a beautifully textured Mohawk Superfine Eggshell 148 gsm paper by Blurb in Eindhoven. The book was produced as part of year 3 of my BA (Hons) in Photography at the Institute of Art, Design + Technology, Dun Laoghaire.
